Crashes Kill 8; Boy, 15, Drowns At Sandy Hook Over Memorial Day Weekend
A 10-year-old boy is hospitalized after a Seaside Heights hit-and-run, and the body of a missing postal worker was found, officials said.
NEW JERSEY — At least eight people died — including four children — and several were injured in crashes and other incidents across New Jersey over Memorial Day weekend.
Thousands of people flocked to the beaches all along the coast, and rough surf kept lifeguards busy all weekend. Beach patrols reported multiple ocean rescues of people who got caught in rip currents. In Seaside Heights, there were nine people rescued, starting with two people who were pulled from the surf on Friday afternoon while swimming at an unguarded beach.
On Sunday, six people had to be pulled from the water at B Beach on Sandy Hook, and one, a 15-year-old boy, did not survive, authorities said. The beach is not guarded and has signs that say "no swimming." Read more: Boy, 15, Drowns At Sandy Hook, 5 Others Rescued From Ocean Sunday

On the roads, a man and his two children were killed in a head-on crash in Sussex County on Friday evening, North Jersey.com reported.
Andrew Benavente, 36, his son, A.J., 13, and daughter, Madelyn, 5, were killed when their pickup truck was hit head-on by a Jeep Rubicon driven by Bruce Cseh, 22, of Blairstown, the report said. Cseh died in the crash, which caused Benavente's pickup to burst into flames, the report said.

About the same time Friday, a 10-year-old boy riding his bicycle was hit by a car in Seaside Heights, the Ocean County Prosecutor's office said. The boy was hit so hard his helmet embedded in the windshield of the car, authorities said.
The boy, identified as Jack by his mother, Julia Spalding, is hospitalized and in "immense amounts of pain."
A 19-year-old from North Jersey, Giancarlos Fernandez of Hasbrouck Heights, has been charged with assault by auto and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, the prosecutor's office said. Read more: Boy, 10, Injured In Seaside Heights Hit-And-Run, Man Charged: Official
An 8-year-old died and three others were injured in a fiery crash on Route 55 in Gloucester County Saturday afternoon, NJ.com reported. The crash happened when the driver, who was passing vehicles in the center grass median and on the shoulder, hit another vehicle and lost control.
Also on Saturday, a Mercer County man died in a motorcycle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick, NJ.com reported. Tyler Ford of Hamilton was killed when his motorcycle hit the back of a vehicle that had stopped because of a crash, the report said.
A Jersey City woman died in a crash shortly before noon Sunday in Jersey City, according to NJ.com, after her Chevy Tahoe hit several vehicles on Garfield Avenue. Desiree Milow, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:26 p.m., and five other people were injured, the report said.
On Monday, authorities said a missing postal worker from Cape May has been identified as the man whose body was found floating a mile off Sandy Hook on May 22, NJ.com reported.
Corey McFadden, 33, of Cape May, whose car was found at the Garden State Parkway rest area in Wall on April 30, had been missing and was last seen by a Manasquan police officer on April 30.
