Seagull-Scaring Birds Get Another Month In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The seagull-scaring birds will continue to swoop during local summer. Ocean City's seagull-abatement program will run on weekends through Oct. 6, officials announced.

The birds will fly noon to 10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays in that span, said Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen.

Ocean City contracted East Coast Falcons a month ago. The program uses falcons, hawks and an owl to scare the gulls away. When the birds fly overhead, the seagulls instinctively know to leave an unsafe place.

The City originally announced it would use the program the summer. Then officials would decide whether to implement the program next summer.
