South Jersey Man Admits Strangling 2 Separate Women

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A Mays Landing man admitted to strangling two women on separate occasions in Atlantic County.
Jerry Vargas-Perez, 27, faces five years in New Jersey State Prison for his guilty plea to two counts of second-degree aggravated assault on a domestic violence victim, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
On Nov. 26, 2022, Atlantic City police were dispatched to the area of Winchester and North Providence Avenues in response to a domestic violence assault.

Vargas-Perez had strangled the victim until she nearly lost consciousness, officials said. He was arrested on the scene; a motion to detain him was denied, authorities said.
On July 6, 2024, Hamilton police were dispatched to the area of Kenwood Court in response to a domestic violence assault on a different victim.

Again, Vargas-Perez had strangled the victim until she couldn't breathe, authorities said. He was again arrested on the scene and this time, the motion to detain him was approved, officials said.
His sentencing is scheduled for June 5, 2026.
