Spring/Summer Lineup Announced At Ocean City Theatre Company

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Looking for something to do as we head into spring and summer? The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company (OCTC) is offering a variety of educational opportunities for kids, teens and adults.

Its 2024 spring and summer lineup has classes, camps and performances.

Here's what the spring lineup has to offer:

INTRO TO MUSICAL THEATRE
Open to students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, this introductory class will teach beginning acting skills, scene and partner work, stage blocking, dance combinations, and fundamental singing skills. The final class will be a showcase displaying everything they learned over the past weeks. Classes begin on March 4 and end on April 8

MOVE IT, MOVE IT!
Open to students in 3rd through 5th grades, this beginner dance class, students will start with a warmup, learn dance combinations, and build their stamina, all while learning about famous Broadway songs! Classes begin March 5 and end on April 9.

INTERMEDIATE ACTING
Open to students in 3rd through 5th grades, this class is for performers who want to take their skills to the next level. Students will work on Monologues, partner work, projection, diction, memorization, and how to incorporate props into character work! Classes begin March 5 and end on April 9.

MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION WORKSHOP
Open to students in 5th – 8th grades, this class will focus on developing proper preparation tools for an audition. Designed for young, emerging artists looking to nail their next audition with confidence and preparation. This experience will run from March 6 through April 10.

BROADWAY TAP BOOTCAMP
Open to students in 8th through 12th grades! Navigate the world of tap with OCTC's tap-intensive bootcamp! Participants will develop an understanding of tap vocabulary such as flaps, shuffles, cramp rolls, and ball change. This class will enable the student to execute these fundamental tap skills successfully and prepare for OCTC's summer production of ANYTHING GOES! Classes run from April 3 through May 8.

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE FOR ADULTS
Open to everyone 16 years and older! Embrace your inner Broadway star while gaining strength, stamina, balance, and the technique to stand center stage.

This class focuses on improving technique while adding embellishments of character to the performance. If you want to have fun listening to great Broadway and Contemporary music while exercising, this is the class for you! All levels are invited to participate.

The 2024 Summer Theatre Camp Schedule is proud to offer the following:

SUMMER KICKOFF MINI-CAMP – MOTHER GOOSE IS LOOSE IN OCNJ
In this mini-camp, campers in Kindergarten through 3rd grades as of Fall 2024. Campers will perform classic mother goose rhymes and fairy tales while learning all about kindness, sharing, and following rules. Learn the fundamentals of theatre while playing games, learning songs, dancing, and creating a craft! Camp runs June 24-28, 2024.

THEATRE CAMP 1: PIRATES – THE MUSICAL!
Keeping with the tradition of offering a fantastic theatre experience for youth, Ocean City Theatre Company's annual collaboration with the City Recreation Department returns. "We're off to sail the rollicking sea, pirates all are we!" But Arrrr! and Shiver me timbers! There's a stowaway on board! Perhaps the King of the High C's will know what to do." Join the salty crew of colorful scallywags when Bluebeard, Yellowbeard, Whitebeard, Purplebeard - well, you get the picture - along with the No Beards, hoist the Jolly Roger and set sail for a mighty adventure! Campers will attend the Tuesday morning Children's Theatre Series at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Camp is open to 3rd through 8th-grade students as of fall 2024. This two-week camp runs July 1 – 12 (no camp on July 4). Signups start May 1, 2024, at www.ocnj.us (Click on Recreation Programs).

THEATRE CAMP 2: DISNEY'S 101 DALMATIANS KIDS
Based on the classic animated film, Disney's 101 Dalmatians KIDS is a fur-raising adventure featuring Cruella De Vil, Disney's most outrageous villain, and 101 of the most adorable heroes to set their paws onstage. With a high-spirited score and lovable characters, this stage adaptation is certain to charm and delight all audiences. Pet owners, Roger and Anita, live happily in London with their Dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, stalwart dogs devoted to raising their puppies. Everything is quiet until Anita's former classmate, the monstrous Cruella De Vil, plots to steal the puppies for her new fur coat. The Dalmatians rally all the dogs of London for a daring rescue of the puppies from Cruella and her bumbling henchmen. Campers will also attend the Tuesday morning Children's Theatre Series at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Camp is open to 1st through 8th grade students as of fall 2024. This two-week camp runs July 15-26, 2024.

THEATRE CAMP 3: THE RAINBOW FISH – THE PLAY
Everybody loves the international bestseller and award-winning book, The Rainbow Fish, with its wonderful message of friendship and belonging. This adaptation is a play and not a musical. These "denizens of the deep" admire the famous Rainbow Fish, the most beautiful fish in all the ocean. But when Rainbow Fish refuses to share their vibrant, shimmering scales, the whole ocean seems to turn against the vain creature. Unhappy that no one adores them anymore, the Rainbow Fish seeks out the wise Octopus (whose tentacles are also played by separate actors). Octopus helps the young fish learn that it's far better to be admired for being kind than for being beautiful. Campers will also attend the Tuesday morning Children's Theatre Series at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Camp is open to 3rd through 8th grade students as of Fall 2024. This two-week camp runs from July 29-August 9.

Final Mini-Camp: YEEHAW! OCTC IS GOIN' COUNTRY
Trade your flip-flops for some cowboy boots in this Western-themed mini-camp! Using bandanas and cowboy hats, campers will learn line dancing, country-themed Broadway musicals, and bring folklore stories to life!

Camp is open to Kindergarten through 3rd grade in Fall 2024. This one-week camp runs August 12-16.

The 2024 Summer Junior Company is proud to offer ANYTHING GOES for our High School Junior Company and SEUSSICAL JR for our Middle School Junior Company. The OCTC Junior Company is an audition-based program that closely follows the structure of our professional company. Auditions will be held on May 4th or 5th by appointment only. ANYTHING GOES
This version of Cole Porter's ANYTHING GOES was adapted from the 1987 Broadway revival, originally produced by Lincoln Center Theatre. Music, dance, laughs and the age-old tale of boy meets girl... Anything Goes is delightful, delicious and de-lovely. This 2022 Revision has twice as much dance music as the 1962 version and includes the hits "I Get a Kick Out of You," "You're the Top," "Friendship," "It's De-Lovely" and the title song, along with "Easy to Love," "Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye" and "Buddie, Beware."

ANYTHING GOES is open to students in 9th grade through 12th grade as of September 2024. Performances will be held at the Ocean City Music Pier on July 26th & 27th at 7:30pm.

SEUSSICAL JR.
Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers and guard an abandoned egg left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

SEUSSICAL JR is open to 5th through 8th grade students as of September 2024. Performances will be held at the Ocean City Music Pier on August 23rd & 24th at 7:30pm.
