Stockton College Offers Writing Getaway With Pulitzer Prize Winner

Stephen Dunn, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, will be among the faculty at the getaway Jan. 16-19.

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey issued the following press release Monday morning:

Murphy Writing of Stockton College will offer its Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway on Jan. 16-19, 2015 at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, NJ, with faculty including Stephen Dunn, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Celebrating its 22nd Anniversary, the Winter Getaway has become one of the oldest and largest writers’ conferences in the winter season, offering workshops in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, memoir writing and more. Nationally known story writer and poet Kim Addonizio will also be among those offering workshops.

“Most writers struggle to find time to write,” founding director Peter Murphy explained. “The Getaway not only offers time, but it also provides a supportive and challenging atmosphere where they can get instruction as well as helpful feedback.”

Nearly 200 writers from the United States, Canada, Ireland and Nigeria have already registered, and some seats are still available. Despite the large number of participants, most workshops will be limited to just 10 writers.

The $490 tuition includes a three-day writing workshop, afternoon and evening activities, a Friday evening reception, Saturday and Sunday lunches and Sunday dinner. A limited number of room packages at the Stockton Seaview Hotel are also available.

Educators will receive 18 hours of professional development credit.

Murphy Writing, founded by Stockton adjunct instructor and alumni Peter Murphy in 1994, has partnered with Stockton College on more than 10 programs since 2012, and now is under the School of General Studies (GENS).
