Students Perform at Benefit for Music Teacher Betsy Young

The event raises $2,885 for an Ocean City Intermediate School teacher who is recovering from surgery for a brain tumor.

Betsy Young inspired her students for 13 years as a music teacher and a mentor, and on Wednesday night they inspired her.

Two of Young's former students, Ocean City High School seniors Amanda Thomas and Katelynn Shoemaker, helped organize a musical tribute as a benefit to Young, who has not worked at Ocean City Intermediate School since undergoing surgery for a brain tumor in the summer.

The event drew 110 people and raised $2,885 for Young and her family, including daughters Rachael (a ninth-grader) and Becky (a student at West Chester University). Entertainment for the benefit included a variety of musical acts, all composed of former students of Young.
