Surf Fishing Tournament to Take Place Aug. 9
Prizes will be awarded to boys and girls, ages 8-16, in three age categories.
The Surf Fishing Tournament returns to Ocean City in a few weeks.
The 39th annual Boys and Girls Surf Fishing Tournament for youths ages 8-16 will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at the North End Beach near the Ocean City-Longport Bridge, 10 a.m.-noon. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the bridge's toll booth.
Boys and girls must bring their own bait and tackle, but they can select their fishing spots within a designated area along the beach. During the tournament, Ocean City Fishing Club (OCFC) members will measure and record their catches.
Prizes donated by area merchants will be awarded for first, second, and third places to youngsters in three age categories: 8-10; 11-13; and 14-16.
Last year, 114 participants reeled in a total of 187 fish.
The free event is co-sponsored by the OCFC and the Ocean City Department of Recreation. The chair and co-chair of the event are Ralph Miller and Ed Hoban, respectively.
The rain date is Aug. 16.
In addition to the tournament for boys and girls, the club co-sponsors an annual Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament for teams and individuals.
The 47th annual Inivitational Surf Fishing Tournament for teams and individuals is set for Oct. 18 along the Ocean City beaches.
