South Jersey, Cape May, Jersey Shore Towns Make List of Most Dangerous in New Jersey

Value Penguin lists Wildwood as the Most Dangerous. Avalon and Sea Isle City were also in the top five - more unsafe than East Orange.

Step outside Ocean City, and things are apparently much different in the surrounding communities.

Three of the five most dangerous cities in New Jersey are in Cape May County, and a fourth is Atlantic City, according to consumer resource site valuepenguin.com, which took into account population and different types of crimes.

he bucolic Shore towns of Mantoloking, Harvey Cedars and Beach Haven are less safe than East Orange, according to this list.

The lower the score, the better. New Hanover, which was ranked as the safest place in New Jersey, scored a 9.

Wildwood ranks as the most dangerous city in New Jersey, with a crime score of 2,833.

Atlantic City was second with a crime score of 2,188.

Avalon and Sea Isle City were fourth and fifth, respectively. Avalon’s score was 1,872, and Sea Isle City scored a 1,825.

Ocean City’s crime score was much lower. The City scored a 478, putting it at No. 388 out of 474 on the list of safest cities.
