Toddler Overdosed On Cocaine During Jersey Shore Vacation: Prosecutor

WILDWOOD, NJ — A Ringwood man is facing drugs and child endangerment charges after a 2-year-old boy was hospitalized after overdosing on cocaine, authorities said.

The North Wildwood Fire Department responded to a vehicle on 21st and New Jersey avenues on July 20 for the report of a sick 2-year-old boy, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy said in a joint statement.

Alexander T. Moles, 39, was driving the toddler to the hospital because the boy was having difficulty breathing, officials said.

EMS gave the boy two doses of Narcan, which he responded to, and took him to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional for further treatment, officials said.

Preliminary blood tests showed the boy tested positive for cocaine, according to authorities.

A joint investigation found that Moles was vacationing at a residence in Wildwood when the boy became ill, officials said.

It's unclear what the relationship between Moles and the boy is.

On July 21, Moles was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription legend drugs.

Moles was taken to the Cape May County Correctional Facility and released with conditions at his July 24 detention hearing.
