OCEAN CITY, NJ — Looking to become a lifeguard? Ocean City Beach Patrol is holding tryouts for next season on Aug. 1.

Those interested must turn at least 16-years-old by July 1, 2023, and also have to complete a physical examination before the tryout. Candidates currently under 16 may be offered a place at rookie school training but cannot become an actual lifeguard until they turn 16.

Candidates have to undergo a competitive test, which includes a 500-meter ocean swim, a 500-meter ocean paddleboard, a one-half-mile beach run, a 500-meter erg and a surf dash, as well as an interview.
