Unlock the Ocean and Dive In During Business Persons Plunge in Ocean City

The plunge is set for May 27.

Ocean City, NJ -- Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time to unlock the ocean.

The Business Persons Plunge is set for Friday, May 27, noon, preceded by the annual unlocking of the ocean.

A large wooden key is placed into the sand, and the reverberations destroy any barriers that would keep either fish or bathers from Ocean City waters.

The key turning is not unique; it’s also done in Atlantic City and other shore communities. What follows is specific to Ocean City.

There are several hundred enthusiasts, some dressed in formal attire toting briefcases, and others in costumes that personify their work, strutting into the water to the strains of “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by the Ocean City High School Band.

Realtor John Walton leads the event, clad in a spiffy business suit.

First-time participants include:

  • Coastal Christian Church;
  • Aloha Soft Serve;
  • Hearth and Soul;
  • Rojo’s Mexican Food;
  • Shore Shuttle;
  • Ocean City Fire Department;
  • Tom Heist Insurance; and
  • Ocean Exchange Club.

Aimee Schultz and her daughter, Miss Ocean City Shannon Wallace, will represent JASM Consulting.
