Updated Boardwalk Performers Proposal To Be Introduced At Next Ocean City Council Meeting: Mayor
The proposal will be introduced after members of the city's Community Services team met with performers.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City Council will consider a proposal Mayor Jay Gillian believes “works for everyone” setting guidelines for performers on the boardwalk, the mayor said in his weekly update Friday afternoon.
The proposed ordinance will go before council during its meeting on Thursday night, March March 9, 7 p.m. at City Hall.
“The new measure would apply only between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It’s designed to make sure everybody can enjoy the boardwalk on busy summer nights,” Gillian said. “I don’t want to discourage young artists in any way, and the new version makes it easier for them to perform.”

This will be the third time the proposal goes before city council. The most recent proposal came before city council in December, but in early January, Gillian requested more time to discuss the proposal.

Two teenagers who spoke out against the original proposal last year, as well as the most recent proposal. They expressed concern that performers hadn’t been consulted in the drafting of either proposed ordinance.
Since then, Gillian asked members of the city’s Community Services team to meet with performers to set new guidelines.
In this week’s address, Gillian also discusses his draft budget that will be presented to council members at the March 9 meeting.
He also provided an update on the 34th Street Bridge project and encouraged residents to attend the upcoming OC-Con and Girls Weekend events the first weekend of April.
