Upgrades To Police Complex To Be Considered By Ocean City Council Nov. 10
A resolution concerning architectural services will go before council at its next meeting.

Ocean City, NJ -- Ocean City Council will consider a resolution that would pay for achitectural services to begin modernizing the police and municipal court building behind city hall at its next meeting, Mayor Jay Gillian announced on Friday.
The resolution deals with architectural services for a building that is more than 100 years old and has fallen completely out of compliance with federal flood requirements, Gillian said.
There would be extensive renovations to the upper floors of the existing building. An addition would be built adjacent to it. Ground level parking would also be put in beneath each building.

According to Gilliam, the current plan meets several objectives:
- It preserves a historic building while at the same time stabilizing and updating it.
- It creates a new and modern facility for the police department.
- It does not eliminate parking from any other area of town. In fact, we should see a net gain of spaces.
- It does not require the purchase of any land ... or impact any other part of Ocean City.
- It does not entail any interruption of services or displacement of personnel during construction. Work will be staged so that one building will always be available.
- It will help the city meet the required 500-year flood requirement for a public safety building.
- It’s the most cost-effective approach.
“I ask for your support in moving this work forward,” Gillian said.
