Upper Township Continues to Seek Expanded Voting Rights in Ocean City
Board members would like to be able to vote for Ocean City BOE president, vice president and solicitor.

The Upper Township Board of Education said it plans to continue pursuit of expanded voting rights of sending representatives on the Ocean City Board of Education despite removing resolution on the subject from Monday night’s agenda, the Ocean City Sentinel reports.
In November, Upper Township said it would pursue voting rights for sending representatives that were taken away in 2009.
Board members say a 2009 New Jersey Appellate Court ruling that banned representatives from sending districts from voting on a solicitor prohibits them from voting on matters that do pertain to their students.

They say they removed the resolution because the New Jersey School Boards Association has a policy in place regarding the situation, and is hoping sending districts can regain their rights through legislation. Upper Township intends to support this effort, according to the report.
