Upper Township Teen Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Car While Getting On School Bus: Police

The 14-year-old girl was hit by a 17-year-old driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla while crossing Route 9 Tuesday morning.

A 14-year-old Upper Township girl was seriously hurt when she was hit by a car while crossing Route 9 to get on her school bus Tuesday morning, New Jersey State Police said.

Woodbine Station troopers responded to the intersection of U.S. 9 and Ocean Avenue for the report of a pedestrian struck by a car at 7:17 a.m.

Police learned that the bus was stopped in the northbound lane with its stop sign out and flashing red lights on, but a 17-year-old boy driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla south failed to stop in time and hit the girl.

The girl was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Trauma Center with serious injuries, police said. She was later transported to Cooper Medical Trauma Center in Camden for further treatment.

The driver and his 15-year-old female passenger were not injured.

No summonses or charges have been filed yet, and the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office are actively investigating the incident.
