SEA ISLE CITY, NJ — Even while on vacation, a New Jersey state trooper saved a life. Detective Sergeant First Class George Wren saved a man from drowning Aug. 3 in Sea Isle City.

Wren and his family went to the beach. He was explaining the dangers of rip currents to his children. Then a woman frantically approached Wren and screamed that a man was drowning.

The trooper saw the man drifting further into the ocean and already about 75 yards from the shore. Wren, trained in water rescues, used a surfboard to reach the swimmer. Once Wren reached him, he saw the man was fatigued and barely able to keep himself afloat.
