Escaped Wallaby Captured In NJ Neighborhood
Authorities are investigating how the wily wallaby got out of its zoo enclosure.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ β A wily wallaby that escaped from its Cape May County Zoo enclosure has been caught, authorities said.
Cletus the 2-year-old wallaby is now home, Cape May County officials said.
βCletus is safely back home at the Zoo, and we are grateful for the quick and professional response from our team and our law enforcement partners,β said Leonard C. Desiderio, Director of the Cape May County Board of Commissioners. βThis incident highlights both the importance of our ongoing commitment to animal safety and the strong collaboration between county departments. We thank everyone involved for
ensuring no harm came to the animal or the community.β

Commissioner Andrew Bulakowski, who has oversight of Park and Zoo operations, added: βThe Cape May County Park & Zoo maintains high standards for animal care and habitat security. While we are pleased with the safe and rapid recovery of Cletus, we will conduct a thorough review of this incident. County Risk Management is already documenting the event and will perform a comprehensive security audit of our animal enclosures to prevent any future occurrences.β
