WATCH: Fisherman Catches Shark in Ocean City

The shark survived and was returned to the water.

A local fisherman made a rare catch when he netted a shark at the 36th Street Beach in Ocean City on Tuesday, NBC 10 reports.

A fisherman caught what the Marine Mammal Stranding Center said was likely a Sandbar Shark, which are common in this area and not dangerous to people, according to the report.

The shark, which can grow up to eight feet, survived and was returned to the water, according to the report.

It came one day after sharks were seen in Avalon and Margate, and on the heels of recent shark attacks off the coast of the Carolinas.

The Marine Mammal Standing Center in Brigantine has acknowledged that the sightings are more common than usual, but also state that shark bites are less common than bathtub falls.
