Water Main Upgrades Underway In Ocean City

New Jersey American Water will replace about 10,810 feet of water main that was installed around the 1900s with new PVC pipe.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — About $2.7 mullion in water main upgrades is now underway in the Ocean City service area, New Jersey American Water announced this week. The company will replace about 10,810 feet of water main that was installed around the 1900s with new PVC pipe. New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor Perna Finnigan, Inc. will be working along the following streets on the following schedule:

  • 51st Street, from Asbury Avenue to Central Avenue: November 13 to November 24
  • North Street, from West Avenue to Atlantic Avenue: September 5 to October 6
  • Wesley Road, from North Street to Battersea Road: September 5 to October 6
  • 2nd Street, from Bay Avenue to Simpson Avenue: October 2 to November 3
  • 2nd Street, from Asbury Avenue to Atlantic Avenue: October 2 to November 3
  • 3rd Street, from Bay Avenue to West Avenue: October 2 to November 3
  • 3rd Street, from Asbury Avenue to Wesley Avenue: October 2 to November 3
  • Tennessee Avenue, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Caroline Lane, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Coral Lane, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Gilbert Lane, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Kingston Lane, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Marshall Lane, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Pine Road, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18
  • Tobago Road, full length of roadway: November 6 to January 18

“We are looking forward to beginning these substantial updates now that the unofficial end of summer is here,” Operations Supervisor Tim Green said. “We are coordinating these projects closely with the city to ensure efficiencies and to make sure the main replacements are completed ahead of the upcoming city road reconstruction project.”

Before work begins, residents within the scope of these projects will receive a notice from Perna Finnigan with the actual start date. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.

The goal of the project is to improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. It is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

New Jersey American Water has recently published an interactive Infrastructure Upgrade Map on its website to share details about its pipeline renewal projects, including the projects in Ocean City. The map is located at www.newjerseyamwater.com under Water Quality, System Updates.
