What's Happening In Ocean City In October?

Ocean City, NJ -- October begins this weekend, and although it's been raining and the weather will soon turn chilly, there are plenty of things to do in Ocean City next month.

Here's a look at some of the things happening in Ocean City in October:

Sept. 30-Oct.1: Boardwalk and Downtown Merchant Table Sales, 6th to 14th streets on Boardwalk and Asbury Avenue.

Oct. 1: The John Williams Tribute concert by the Ocean City Pops that was postponed from Sept. 4 has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier. Customers holding tickets for the Sept. 4 show may use the tickets they already have. Additional tickets are on sale now. Oct. 2: John R. Elliott Hero Walk: Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Sports and Civic Center at 6th and Boardwalk. The opening ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. The Walk begins at 11 a.m. on the boardwalk at 6th St. This is a 5K Walk to promote the use of sober, designated drivers and reduce the number of drunken driving tragedies. The HERO Campaign also raises funds for important educational and awareness programs. This is a time to remember those who have been affected by a drunk driver. Oct. 2: Chili-Chowder Festival sponsored by the Ocean City Restaurant Assn. Noon to 4 p.m. at the Tennessee Ave. Soccer Complex to benefit the Humane Society of Ocean City. Oct. 7-9: Nunsense by the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company. This musical comedy is winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Broadway Musical. Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, accidentally poisons 52 of the sisters, placing the church in dire need of burial funds. They decide the best way to raise money is to produce a variety show in the school’s auditorium. Here we meet: Mother Regina, a former circus performer; a street wise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head; and other wacky characters. Oct. 9: 5th annual Spooks 'N' Kooks Costume Surf Contest. Registration begins 9 a.m. at 7th St. Beach. Entry fee: 10 canned goods or $10 Shoprite Gift Card. Contest begins at 10 a.m. Divisions: Open long board, Short board, Women’s and 13 and under. Spectators welcome. All proceeds benefit the Ocean City Food Cupboard. Oct. 9: 21 Down Buddy Walk. Registration and Pre-walk party is held from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at OC Sports and Civic Center, 6th and Boardwalk.
