Why I Walk, and Work, To End Alzheimer’s – Mike Fattizzi

The Alzheimer's Association is spotlighting people who are making a difference in the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia, by participating in the upcoming 2021 Walk To End Alzheimer’s (WTEA) - the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Today we say thank you to Mike Fattizzi of Margate, a participant in, and Walk Manager of, the Cumberland Walk To End Alzheimer’s, taking place on Saturday, October 9 at Rowan College, 3322 College Drive, in Vineland. "This is Mike’s second year directing the Cumberland Walk, and has been a tremendous asset to our team. As Walk Manager, he has identified new individuals to participate in our event, made many new connections and secured local sponsorships. Mike is extremely committed to the cause and really understands the importance of raising funds and awareness as we work together in finding a cure," said Megan DiPanni, Vice President of Development, Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter.

Mike’s extraordinary passion and dedication to helping all those affected by the disease has inspired and motivated others to get involved. The funds raised by his effort, and others, helps propel the Association’s mission forward - accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Mike explains, “My Dad was not only my hero, but he was my best friend. He spent his entire life being kind to everyone he met. He not only guided me through the most difficult times in my life, but his deep-rooted willingness to help, extended to all people. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with Alzheimer's two years ago but lives on in my heart and memory. His passing inspired me to choose a new path in life. I now work, for the Alzheimer’s Association, and walk, to honor his legacy. It is my privilege to work alongside so many dedicated and passionate co-workers and volunteers all striving towards a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.”

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 11 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In New Jersey alone, there are more than 190,000 people living with the disease and 347,000 caregivers.
