BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A New York man was arrested after he allegedly stole gas at a station in Bergen County and ran over the attendant's foot, police said.
Alexis J. Santiago, 35, of Airmont, N.Y., was charged in connection with the robbery at the Exxon Gas Station at 792 Route 17 North that took place in May, Paramus police said.
Police said around 8 a.m. on May 29, police responded to the Exxon station after receiving a report of a theft of gas.
The attendant said the driver asked for $50 worth of regular gasoline, and said he'd pay in cash.
After the fuel was dispensed, the driver fled without paying, running over the attendant’s right foot, police said.
The 43-year-old attendant, from Oradell, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Detective Joseph Windt watched video of the incident and identified the car as a 2005 Lexus with New York plates.
The Clarkstown Police Department helped him identify the driver as Santiago. On the evening of the theft, Santiago was taken into custody.
