Bergen County Man Arrested In Fatal Hotel Stabbing: Officials

BERGENFIELD, NJ — A Bergen County man was arrested in connection with a hotel stabbing in Union County that left another man dead, officials said.

Javan Johnson, 30, of Bergenfield was arrested after an investigation led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and Elizabeth Police.

Police officers found Marlon Pantin of Brooklyn, New York laying on the lobby floor of Country Inn & Suites in Elizabeth early Monday morning, a joint press release said.

Pantin was suffering from stab wounds and was in critical condition, according to an announcement from Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl J. Graves and Chief Giacomo Sacca.

Pantin was rushed to University Hospital in Newark and subsequently pronounced dead, Union County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady said.

Johnson was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Bergenfield Police Department also assisted in this investigation.

Johnson was sent to Union County Jail pending court proceedings.
