Commuters Who Park on Douglas Drive Could Be Forced Out

Every weekday morning, cars line Douglas Drive, a dead-end street off Paramus Road.

Most of them don't live there, or even in Paramus, Sgt. Vincent Pepe of the said.

They are commuters who take the NJ Transit bus that stops at the corner of Douglas and Paramus. After receiving complaints from the residents of Douglas Drive that the commuters smoke and litter on the street, the Borough Council has introduced an ordinance that would limit parking on either side of Douglas to three hours between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The ordinance will be up for final approval at the next Council meeting. Once it passes, Pepe said, police will install signs warning the commuters about the ordinance and place notices on their windshields.

Pepe said the fine would be about $50.

"Commuters need a spot to park, but residents come first," he said.
