Yona Sabar, the subject of “My Father’s Paradise”—this year’s One Book, One Community selection—was born in a mud hut in the mountains of Kurdish Iraq and has never been particularly media savvy. Now a professor at UCLA and one of the world’s experts on Aramaic, he is sometimes called on to help TV and movie actors learn the language for scenes involving G-d or Jesus. Meet Yona and his son Ariel, author of My Father’s Paradise at a FREE One Book, One Community event sponsored by Federation’s Synagogue Leadership Initiative. A dessert reception catered by Jewish Home Assisted Living, will follow. Dietary laws strictly observed. Please RSVP to Nancy Perlman, 201-820-3904 or emailNancyP@jfnnj.org.
