PARAMUS, NJ — Rutgers graduate Jake Thistle — who grew up in Paramus and has been competing on TV's American Idol — saw his stint on the show come to an end Monday night.

During his 10-week run on the program, he performed both original and classic rock tunes in front of judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan.

But he was not chosen to be among 12 musicians to continue the next rounds of judging.

On Tuesday, Thistle told Patch, "It was such an honor getting to know the Idol team and all of the other contestants. Super grateful to have hung around as long as I did, and for everything I’ve learned in the process...in addition to new music releases, I hope to see everyone out on the road soon."

On social media, he wrote, "What a ride! ... I’ve always considered myself more of a songwriter than a singer, so I’m just so happy to have gotten to hang around with everyone as long as I was able to!"

The 22-year-old crooner has been performing around the state since he was nine years old, crooning covers of classic rock and pop hits, as well as originals.

He grew up in Paramus and praised the music program in the public schools. These days, he often performs in Asbury Park, enjoying the scene that gave birth to Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, and others.

Last week, he was among the remaining 20 singers asked to perform a "Song of faith." He chose "Have A Little Faith In Me" by John Hiatt.
