Paramus Junior Baseball Complying with Ban on Composite Bats

Little League International put a moratorium on composite bats in all divisions for the 2011 season.

Little League International put a moratorium on the use of composite bats in all divisions for the 2011 season.

"We as a league have been notifying parents through e-mails as well as posting this information on our web site," said Paramus Junior Baseball League President Tim O'Reilly. "As a league, we do not supply bat bags to our teams.  Most children tend to use their own individual bats, which they purchase."

Prior to games, the umpires are responsible for checking if the athletes are using one of 13 approved bats. More bats may be added to the list after being tested.

"As a league we have spoken to our managers and all of them are aware of the banning of composite bats," O'Reilly said. "We have taken a pro-active approach to assure that the bats which have been banned will not be allowed to be used. The moratorium placed on composite bats has now allowed certain composite bats to be used in play as long as they meet the requirements set by Little League."

For a list of approved bats, go to http://www.littleleague.org/learn/equipment/approvedcompbatssmall.htm.  The cost of bats can rage from $15 to $300 depending on the make and model.
