New PHS Baseball Coach Named

Alumnus and former JV coach to take over for Joe Cervino

Joe Cervino’s successor has been named: Former junior varsity baseball coach and 1995 Paramus High School graduate Jon Morrisette will become only the third coach in school history.

“To play for and to have the opportunity to coach with him it’s an absolute honor to take over the reins from him,” Morrisette said. “I’m real happy about this opportunity.”

Morrisette admits there might be some pressure to have a strong debut after last year’s varsity squad tied a school record with 25 wins and advanced all the way to the Group 3 state final.

“But I think being the JV coach and knowing the talent and the kids and the personalities that are on the team that is coming up puts us in a real good position to not skip a beat and stay successful next year and in years to come," Morrisette said.

Morrisette played baseball collegiately at Rowan University. He went on to coach softball for five years at Montclair State University and alongside former Paramus standout Doug Cinella at Professional Baseball Instruction in Saddle River before spending the last nine years as the Paramus JV baseball coach (141-49, .742), winning the 2006 JV tournament. The JV squad finished 17-4 this past spring, losing in the JV tournament final.

Morrisette also serves as the girls' varsity tennis coach and will be stepping down as bowling coach.

“I’m excited to be a part of the future of Paramus baseball,” Morrisette said.
