PARAMUS, NJ — Noise from a fight at Garden State Plaza this weekend sent shoppers running for cover, police and local media reports say.

Paramus Police said there was not a shooting, but described a "physical altercation" at the mall in a Tweet sent Saturday.

"The subjects have now left the area, and Paramus Police and Detectives are investigating," police said at 5 p.m. Saturday. "There is no hazard."

Some Twitter users, in replies to the tweet, said they were in the mall and heard what sounded like gunshots.

Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg told NorthJersey.com someone "must have yelled 'gun.'"

Ehrenberg said a broken bottle may have made a noise like a gunshot, according to NorthJersey.com. The fight was in the food court, the report said.

No one has been arrested or charged after the incident, police said.
