North Bergen Man Charged In Bergen Town Center Murder: Prosecutor
Two men were arrested, and one charged with murder, in the stabbing death of 64-year-old Omar Cruz.
MAYWOOD, NJ — Two men have been arrested in connection to the stabbing death of 64-year-old Omar Cruz. One man, Augusto Gomez-Perez, is charged with his murder.
Police were called to the Bergen Town Center mall Tuesday on reports of an injured person. When they arrived shortly after 6 p.m. officers found Cruz in the parking lot at 45 West Spring Valley Rd. with multiple stab wounds, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said. Cruz, of Albany, New York, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

An investigation led by the Prosecutor's Office determined that Gomez-Perez, 70, of North Bergen, was responsible for the stabbing, and that Jorge A. Sanchez-Valdez, of Guttenberg, "hindered his own apprehension."
Gomez-Perez was hit with two weapons charges in addition to the charge of murder.

Both men were remanded to Bergen County Jail, where they await a first appearance in court.
