Paramus Catholic Wins Sectional Football Championship

The Paladins beat the Marauders of Saint Peter's Prep 33-28.

The Paladins are champions once again, but it wasn't easy.

Paramus Catholic beat Saint Peter's Prep 33-28 Friday to win the Non-Public North 4 state sectional championship, their third in five years.

Saint Peter's scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and then recovered an onside kick and scored another touchdown to make it a five-point game.

Saint Peter's recovered another onside kick, but the ball touched a player before it went 10 yards and Paramus Catholic recovered.

Saint Peter's gave Paramus Catholic all they had, with quarterback Jonathan Lewis scoring on a 61-yard run with 9:16 left in the first quarter.

Paramus Catholic junior running back Jonathan Clark scored early in the second quarter to make it 7-6. Saint Peter's led 14-7 going into halftime and led in every major statistical category in the first half.

Paramus Catholic went up 26-14 early in the fourth quarter. The Paladines recovered a fumble with seven minutes to go in the fourth. Jonathan Quick ripped off a 42-yard run on the next play.

From there, Paramus Catholic's defense put pressure on Saint Peter's, who responded well, scoring 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.
