Paramus Golf Course to Offer New Packages

Looking to boost revenue

Golfers—and minigolfers—will have a host of new options at the when it opens this season.

The golf course and mini-golf course are offering several new packages for the new season, in an attempt to boost revenue.

"We have to do things to bring in more people," Sharon Herman, head cashier at the golf course, said.

Herman came up with many of the new offerings, which include:

  • "Twilight" rates: A discount, $5 for residents, $10 for non-residents, for tee times two hours before closing.
  • More "shotgun" outings: In the past, outings for which the entire course is reserved, or "shotgun" outings, were discouraged. That won't be the case anymore, as both Mondays and Wednesdays are available for shotgun outings for anyone who can guarantee attendance of 100 people.
  • $2 discounts for current members of the military.
  • Party packages at the mini-golf course that include shirts, souvenir golf balls and invitations.

The new offerings, especially at the mini-golf course, are designed to make the Paramus Golf Course more competitive with other area party venues like , Herman said. Her hope is that people see the Borough's course offers more for  a better price.

The changes, and the push for revenue, come as Michael Rohdieck, Borough councilman and liaison to the golf committee, is exploring new management options for the golf course. Rohdieck said selling the course was not an option.

"As many have said, Paramus Golf Course is one of many gems in our town, and no one wants to change that," he said. "Looking at management companies lets us see if there are better, more efficient ways to manage our course in the future."

The new packages will take effect as soon as the course opens, Herman said. That may be later than expected, due to Monday's snow, but the course will open as soon as the course is clear.

Whenever that finally happens, Herman said, the strategy at the golf course will be to market the new offerings as much as possible.

"We're not high end, we're not high-priced," she said. "We just want people to come out and have a good time."
