Paramus School District To Get Big State Aid Boost This Year

PARAMUS, NJ — The school district is set to receive a big boost in state aid.

The district is scheduled to get more than $2.5 million in state aid, a 15 percent increase from last year. Governor Phil Murphy's administration this week released the proposed state aid numbers for every school district for the 2018-19 school year.

The 15 percent increase is the second largest increase in Bergen County. Only Haworth is slated to receive a greater percentage at 16.5.

Only 32 school districts would see no increase under Murphy's school funding plan (see the complete list here).

Overall, state aid would increase 3.5 percent over the 2017-18 school year under the plan, which requires approval from the state Legislature.

State aid weighs heavily in many district's decisions on raising local property taxes. Many often say that aid cuts or flat spending from year to year gives them cause to raise what are already among the highest property taxes in the country.
