Paramus Sports: Alpher is All-Time Wins Leader

Nick Alpher made wrestling history, and the Paramus hockey team finished the season with a win.

In a tri-meet against Wayne Valley and River Dell, senior wrestler Nick Alpher became the Spartans' all-time career wins leader (130).

Alpher tied the record by pinning Wayne Valley's Anthony Nucci at 5:05 in the bout, and eclipsed the record after recording a 16-0 technical fall over River Dell's Zachary Decker.

The Paramus hockey team (11-8-3) finished its season on a high note. The Spartans defeated Hackensack 6-3 on Feb. 12. Junior Mark Apidopoulos recorded two goals and an assist. Sophomore Dylan Rizer scored two goals. Freshmen JJ Piccinich (one goal, three assists) and Dean Delucia (one goal, two assists) added to the offensive output.

Apidopoulos led the Spartans with 36 goals and 24 assists. Rizer was the team's second leading goal scorer with 28 goals. He also tacked on 16 assists. Piccinich was third in scoring with 22 goals, and second in assists (21).

The team qualified for the State tournament.

The girls basketball team (10-11) lost to Ramapo 64-38 on Tuesday. Three players scored in double digits. Kristina Meier led Paramus with 15 points. Stephanie Huang added 11 points, and Brittany Stone chipped in with 10.

The boys basketball team (1-20) fell to Ramapo 52-38. Eric Lesko led Paramus with eight points. Chris Rigoliosi scored seven, Max Baria and Justin Kim scored six. Yen-Wuh Ruu scored five points and Manan Shah netted one.
