Spartans Finish 2nd in District 5 Tournament, Alpher Wins at 145

Nick Alpher wins District 5 Championship, Spartans finish behind Don Bosco.

The wrestlers, who scored 154 points, finished second to host Don Bosco Prep (168 points) in the District 5 wrestling tournament on Feb. 19.

Nick Alpher won the District 5 championship for the second year in a row at 145. Alpher pinned Brian Bandstra (Waldwick/Midland Park) in the semifinals before defeating Sal Mastriani (Don Bosco) 3-1 in the final.

Eric Giannantonio won the 103 championship, defeating Bosco's Sloan Miller 8-1. Joe Rizzitello won the 130 championship, pinning Ramapo's Chris Mutterer in the final.

Mike Sebahie reached the finals at 171, but fell to Ryan Walker (Mahwah) 14-5.

The Paramus High School girls' basketball team lost to Holy Angels 58-49 on Tuesday. The Angels are in the finals of the Bergen County Tournament.

"We played well," head coach Vic DiPasquale said. "But we lost by nine."

The Spartans trailed by 10 (35-25) at the half.

The Spartan hockey team fell to Northern Highlands 4-3 in overtime on Monday at the Ice Vault in Wayne. The game was the first round matchup of the Big North Silver Cup.

Mark Apidopoulos, Matt Hazuda and Dean Delucia all scored goals for Paramus.
