Red Wolf Exhibit Set For Opening At Bergen County Zoo

PARAMUS, NJ — A set of red wolves are coming to the Bergen County Zoo, and the public will have a chance to meet them during a grand opening ceremony on Friday evening.

Scheduled for 4 p.m., county and zoo officials will unveil the new red wolf exhibit at the zoo as part of a larger Red Wolf Recovery Program "designed to save the species," according to the county.

The zoo’s new exhibit is over 10,000 sq. ft. and will serve as the home to two young male red wolves on loan from the Wolf Conservation Center.

According to the conservation center, red wolves are a critically endangered species, and one of only two species of wolf in North America. As of July 2021, only nine red wolves are known to remain in the wild, located in North Carolina, the center said.

And just in time for National Wolf Month, the zoo announced they'll host a special grand opening event for the exhibit.

The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, performances by the Red Storm Drum & Dance Troop, extended zoo hours with free admission, extended hours for the train and carousel, crafts for children, a raffle with prizes and giveaways.

The ceremony is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m.
