3-Year-Old Drowns At Morris County Park

Pequannock Valley Park remains closed as of Tuesday morning for an investigation and review of procedure, police said.

A three-year-old girl from Pompton Plains died Monday after drowning at Pequannock Valley Park, police said. The park remains closed as of Tuesday morning for an investigation and review of procedure.

According to Pequannock Township police, a woman reported she could not find her young daughter at the park Monday afternoon. Lifeguards ordered everyone out of the water and began searching for the young girl.

The child was quickly located just before 4 p.m., police said. She was unresponsive and given CPR on the beach.

Paramedic and ambulance crews from Chilton Medical Center responded. She was transported to Chilton Medical Center, where resuscitative efforts continued but were unsuccessful.

Residents are advised to check the Parks and Recreation website for information about when the park will reopen.
