A Wee Bit O' the Green in Parsippany
Irish-inspired pub and restaurant mixes the traditional and the trendy.

When I think of Irish restaurants, what comes to mind is hearty comfort food, yeasty pints of ale and a warm sense of family. You'll find all that more in the cozy wood setting that is the Blackthorn Irish Restaurant & Pub. Owned and operated by Eugene Gillespie Sr. with his wife, Rosemary, and their son, Eugene Jr., the eatery offers delicious fare, a killer jukebox, and a real family feel. That's why the Blackthorn is this week's pick for Bites Nearby.
Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
- This Route 46 eatery has only been in Parsippany for a few months, but it's already making Irish eyes smile. Patterned after the Gillespie family's first Blackthorn location in Kenilworth, the Celtic sequel puts an obviously winning formula to work. The menu features trad-Irish victuals such as Guiness beef stew, Harp battered fish and chips and Shepherd's Pie alongside items one might not expect to see: thick and juicy American-style burgers; spicy, cheesy nachos; and the ever-popular sliders and wraps. And you have your choice of experiences: Three large dining rooms allow you to dine in the midst of the bustling bar or in a more relaxed, upscale setting. Whatever your choice, the hospitable Gillespies and their courteous staff will make you feel at home. Pop in for a tasty lunch or a hearty dinner, for live music on Wednesday nights or a happy hour with the gang. You'll find friendly service, affordable prices, a wide variety of beers (including Guiness and Harp), and the infectious Irish spirit of the Gillespies in a festive setting made for friendship, food and fun. The Blackthorn is located at 1735 Route 46 in Parsippany.
