The charges stem from an incident on May 26, 2024, at the Ramada by Wyndham Parsippany on Route 46.

Police were called to the hotel after a guest reported being beaten and robbed by two armed men, one of whom was Verdesoto.

Authorities said the Verdesoto pistol-whipped the guest before he and his partner duct-taped and zip-tied her to a chair in the hotel room.

The pair demanded money from the woman. When they obtained the money, they left the room, leaving her bound to the chair.

She was eventually able to free herself and call the authorities. The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for several head injuries and cuts to her face.

Following a months-long investigation, authorities identified Verdesoto as one of the suspects. Police searched his car and found zip ties and a pistol. They also found clothing matching the items worn on surveillance video in his West New York home.

After pleading guilty to armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, Verdesoto was sentenced to 13 years in prison last week.

He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
