PARSIPPANY, NJ — The Parsippany community has come together for a family who recently suffered an unexpected tragedy.

Yasan, who is described as “a hardworking, dedicated diesel mechanic” who “worked tirelessly,” leaves behind his wife and two-year-old son.

“No matter how exhausted he was, Ufuk was always the first person willing to help someone in need. He was known for his generosity, kindness, and incredible work ethic. Ufuk immigrated from Turkey to build a better life for his family,” a fundraiser reads. “The family is facing unimaginable grief, along with the overwhelming financial burden of funeral expenses and fulfilling Ufuk’s final wish of being laid to rest in his home country of Turkey.”

A GoFundMe launched by a family friend has raised more than $12,000 so far, with nearly 200 donations. The funds will go towards transporting Yasan’s body to Turkey and funeral expenses.

Background

On Memorial Day, around 4:15 p.m., police were called to a business located on Edwards Road on a report that someone had been crushed under a forklift.

Authorities discovered a 48-year-old man, Yasan, was pinned beneath the forklift. Police used a nearby floor jack to lift the machinery and free the man, but he had already succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and that the incident is not currently suspected to be criminal in nature.

This incident comes weeks after a Parsippany garbage man was crushed by a car while on his sanitation route.
