Bat Walks are Back in Parsippany!

BAT WALKS ARE BACK IN PARSIPPANY!

Don’t miss the opportunity to join local environmental groups and the Rutgers’ Wildlife Conservation and Management Program for a family-friendly outdoor outing right here in Parsippany! This popular event, sponsored by the Parsippany Bat Protection Project (PBPP), brings together nature lovers and science enthusiasts for a humorous and engaging presentation on New Jersey’s native bats, followed by a short walk at dusk to identify bats on site in real time!

2026 marks the sixth year that the PBPP, an initiative of Parsippany’s Green Team, has organized the Bat Walks in the Troy Meadows Preserve, along with Morris County 4-H, and Wildlife Preserves Inc.

This year’s Bat Walk will be held on Saturday, June 13th, (rain date June 19th) beginning with free arts and crafts for children at 7:15 and a presentation at 7:30. Bat researchers from Rutgers will use interactive demonstrations to teach participants about New Jersey’s native bats, followed by the use of special acoustic devices that can identify bat species as the bats dart overhead, feasting on insects. The program is free of charge. Participants will want to bring water bottles, insect repellent, and folding chairs or blankets if they wish to sit during the presentation.
