Parsippany Historic Site Receives Morris County Preservation Grant

PARSIPPANY, NJ — A historic property in Parsippany-Troy Hills is among 35 sites across Morris County set to benefit from nearly $5 million in preservation funding this year.

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners recently approved more than $4.9 million in grants through the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund, supporting restoration, rehabilitation and planning efforts at historic landmarks throughout the county.

In Parsippany-Troy Hills, the Bowlsby-DeGelleke House was awarded a $12,472 non-construction grant to prepare construction documents for future preservation work. The funding will help advance planning efforts for the historic property and position it for future restoration projects.

The Parsippany project was one of 35 grants awarded countywide. Construction grants funded projects such as exterior restorations, roof replacements and rehabilitation work, while non-construction grants support preservation plans, architectural assessments, acquisitions and construction documents needed before restoration work can begin.

Among the largest awards this year were:

• Scott Farm Barn in Mendham Borough: $428,900 for rehabilitation.
• Seward House in Mount Olive Township: $400,000 for interior restoration.
• First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains in Pequannock Township: $365,184 for fence restoration.
• Phoenix House in Mendham Borough: $357,200 for Phase 2 exterior restoration.
• Orchard Street Cemetery Gatehouse in Dover: $349,760 for Phase 2 restoration.

The Historic Preservation Trust Fund has helped preserve dozens of Morris County landmarks since its creation, providing municipalities and nonprofit organizations with financial assistance to restore historically significant buildings and sites.

This year's awards include 35 projects totaling $4,920,231, with both construction and non-construction grants distributed throughout the county.
