Overnight Highway Ramp Closures Planned In Parsippany: See Details

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Drivers traveling through Parsippany-Troy Hills should expect overnight detours this week as a bridge-painting project continues near the I-280 and I-287 interchange.

The I-280 westbound ramp to I-287 and Route 46 is scheduled to close from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday. The ramp will close again from 11 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

The closure is necessary for crews to paint the I-80 eastbound bridge over I-280 and Route 46.

Drivers headed toward Route 46 will be directed to:

• Stay left for I-80 westbound and continue on the express lanes.
• Take the ramp for exits 42A-B toward Route 202 and Route 46.
• Stay left for Exit 42A toward Route 202 and I-80 eastbound.
• Cross over I-80 and take the ramp to I-80 eastbound.
• Take the exit for Route 202 northbound.
• Turn left onto Smith Road to access Route 46 eastbound or westbound.

Drivers headed toward I-287 will follow the same detour to I-80 eastbound before taking Exit 43 for I-287 toward Morristown or Mahwah. Motorists should remain left for I-287 northbound or right for I-287 southbound.

The work is part of an $8.5 million federally funded project to repaint 10 I-80 bridges in Morris and Bergen counties.

According to NJDOT, preventative painting protects structural steel from corrosion, keeps bridges in good repair, and extends their operational lifespan.

The schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.
