Ashley Burroughs Shines For Parsippany High

Sophomore helps Red Hawks reach state sectional semifinals.

The end of any season is hard, and the same goes for the Parsippany High School girls basketball season ending 58-53 loss in the North Jersey Section 2, Group II semifinals to West Essex.

But not to fret fans, because there is something to look forward to for next year.

That something (or someone)  is sophomore guard Ashley Burroughs.

Burroughs lit up the scoreboard late in the season, recording double-digit scoring performances in each of the Red Hawk's three playoff games.

First, the sophomore helped fifth-seeded Parsippany to a 48-32 win over No. 12 Lincoln High (15-10), a game that the Red Hawks broke open with a 20-8 third-quarter run, as she recorded 10 points, while also grabbing three rebounds, one steal and dishing one assist.

Two days later against fourth-seeded Rutherford High, Burroughs was a factor on both ends of the hardwood. The sophomore not only helped a Parsippany defense that allowed Rutherford just one double digit scoring quarter, but the sophomore also scored a team high 13 points, leading Parsippany to a 40-26 win.

But Borroughs wasn’t finished just yet, again stepping up her offensive game in Parsippany's semifinal matchup against No. 1 West Essex. The sophomore netted 10 points, but saw her team come up just short, 58-53.

While the outcome wasn’t exactly what Burroughs and her teammates were hoping for, it’s clear that the Parsippany High School  girls basketball program has a star in the making.
