BJ's Cancels Hanover Store, Lowe's Moving In Instead

The Lowe's was approved by the Hanover planning board after BJ's dropped out.

HANOVER, NJ — After months of anticipation, the Hanover Planning Board has said that BJ's will not be coming to Hanover Ave. Instead, a Lowe's is looking to open in that location.

The board approved the home improvement store at the April 17 meeting, Hanover Eagle reported. Hanover Mayor Ronald Francioli said BJ's was no longer building on the Litton site, and Lowe's would occupy that space instead.

"Lowe’s has been approved to go on what was the BJs location, there is no explanation as to BJs withdrawal," Francioli told Patch.

It was not immediately clear why BJ's was no longer looking to open a store in Hanover. A representative for RD Management declined to comment. The BJ's is still listed on their website as coming to the town.

Requests for comment sent to Lowe's and BJ's have also gone unanswered. Patch will update this article when we hear back.

The BJ's was first announced in January 2017 for the old Litton site, across from the Mennen Sports Arena, which was closed 20 years ago due to environmental concerns. The Lowe's will be built in the same space the BJ's was first planned for.
