Chick-Fil-A, 2nd Taco Bell Could Reach Parsippany Soon

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany may soon have two new dining options available six days a week and one new dining option on Sundays. Township officials approved plans to bring in another Taco Bell, while a Chick-fil-A remains up for consideration.

The Parsippany Board of Adjustment's meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday includes an agenda item for an application to put a Chick-fil-A at 1180 Route 46. A flyer circulating on social media expresses concerns about traffic that the plan, if approved, may bring. The construction of the restaurant and its traffic flow would impact Hawkins Avenue, Condit Street, Summit Street and Ball Avenue, according to the flyer.

Chick-fil-A has about 50 New Jersey locations — including one just outside of Parsippany in the Briarcliff Commons shopping center of Morris Plains. Some of the company's practices reflect the beliefs of late founder S. Truett Cathy — a devout Southern Baptist — including their closure on Sundays.

The company has been subject to controversy for longtime opposition to same-sex marriage, donating millions via its foundation to organizations that share the view. But the company has shown signs of reducing its efforts on the issue, with then-President Tim Tassopoulos saying in 2019 that the company would stop donating to The Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes — two organizations that have promoted anti-LGBTQ stances.

Taco Bell, meanwhile, received the Planning Board's unanimous approval at Monday's meeting. The restaurant will go on 285 Route 46 E — the former location of local bar The Inn Crowd.

It wasn't immediately clear when the eatery may open. Patch reached out to Taco Bell's press office and will update with any response. Parsippany has a Taco Bell on 1560 Route 46 W — a few miles down the road from where the new restaurant will go.
