This talk will be divided into two sections - the literary and the historical - with scholars from each field discussing the significance of The Maltese Falcon. The speakers will discuss Hammett’s work as a detective in the Pinkerton Agency; his romances; his imprisonment and blacklisting; and his emergence as a writer. You will walk away with a deeper understanding of the reasons for the enduring acclaim for Hammett’s novel.
