Fire Destroys Billy & Madeline's Red Room In Hanover: UPDATE

UPDATE: The building is uninhabitable, officials told Patch.

HANOVER, NJ — Four people were injured in a fire that destroyed Billy & Madeline's Red Room in Hanover Monday afternoon.

All four people who were injured were treat for smoke inhalation at Morristown Medical Center and released. The blaze, which started around 12:30 p.m., has left the building uninhabitable a spokesperson for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office told Patch.

A spokesperson would not comment on where owners Billy and Madeline Fornaro are staying, but said the Red Cross is not involved "at this point."

The restaurant is closed on Mondays, and it was unclear who was in the building at the time. ABC 7 reported that "victims [were] leaping from structure to escape flames." The Hanover Police Department and Whippany Fire Department have not yet returned Patch's request for comment.

Flames could be seen coming from the roof of the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation as of Tuesday morning. Officials from over 20 fire, police, and other first responder agencies assisted at the scene.

The tavern, founded in 1933 as Fornaros Tavern, was renamed Billy's in 1959 when son Billy took over. Madeline was added to the name when Billy married Madeline in 1980, their website says.
