Harmon Closure In Parsippany Is Part Of Bed Bath & Beyond's Downsizing Plan

PARSIPPANY, NJ — It's been several years since Bed Bath & Beyond shuttered its Parsippany store. But the company's downsizing continues to impact township businesses.

Bed Bath & Beyond owns several other retail chains, including Harmon Face Value and Buy Buy Baby. The struggling corporation plans to close 150 of its roughly 900 stores. One of them is Parsippany's Harmon store, which has permanently closed.

As of Thursday, Bed Bath & Beyond has released the locations of 120-plus stores that have closed or will close. The list contains seven stores in New Jersey, including four in Morris County that already shuttered:

  • Buy Buy Baby: 327 Mount Hope Ave., Suite 1003, Rockaway
  • Harmon: 399 Route 46 W, Rockaway

Bed Bath & Beyond's struggles are nothing new, as the company cut more than half its workforce in four years — going from 65,000 employees in 2018 to 32,000 as of March, according to Macrotrends data. The Parsippany store closed in 2019.

Bed Bath & Beyond was founded in 1971, with a store in Springfield. The company is headquartered in Union.

Bed Bath & Beyond cut 328 jobs in Port Reading last year — New Jersey's largest single-location mass layoff in 2022. Port Reading is home to a Bed Bath & Beyond e-commerce fulfillment center. Related article: The NJ Companies With The Biggest Layoffs In 2022

The corporation acquired Harmon Stores, which operates Face Values, in 2002. Bed Bath & Beyond also acquired Christmas Tree Shops in 2003 but sold the business for an undisclosed amount in 2020 to Handil Holdings LLC.
