Police shared the following tips on keeping your home safe:
- Install surveillance cameras or motion activated video door bells that can quickly alert you when someone is at your residence.
- Install motion activated exterior lights.
- Do not let everyone know the dates you are going on vacation or post it on social media. The only people that should know those details are family members and people you trust.
- If you have a burglar alarm, make sure to arm it prior to leaving your residence.
- Lock all windows when you are not home, to help prevent/delay entry into your residence.
- Keep shrubs cut low so burglars do not have any areas to hide while they are attempting to break into your home.
- Keep exterior and interior lights on timers when you are away so it gives the appearance someone may be home.
- Fill out a mail hold request with your local Post Office so mail does not pile up in your mailbox.
- Keep vehicles locked in your driveway. Burglars can use your garage door opener to gain access into your garage. If your garage is attached to your home it could aid in concealing them while they break into your house.
- Setup a neighborhood watch program for your area.
- Fill out a House Watch form so Officers can check on your house while you are away (for more information please see parpolice.com forms section)
